Singer Jim Seals Dies June 6, 2022
Singer and musician Jim Seals died on June 6, 2022, at the age of 80. He found fame as half of the soft-rock duo Seals and Crofts, along with Darrell “Dash” Crofts.
Seals was born on October 17, 1941, in Sydney, Texas. He met Crofts while both were still in their teens, and they first performed as part of a group called the Crew Cats.
Seals and Crofts’ 1970s hits include “Diamond Girl,” “We May Never Pass This Way Again,” and “Summer Breeze.” After disbanding in 1980, they reunited in 1991 and 2004.
Seals’ older brother Dan was half of another famous duo of the era, England Dan and John Ford Coley.
Seals and Crofts found worldwide fame, as their harmonies resonated with people from many backgrounds. Seals once said, “We’ve had people from Greece, Israel, England and France, China, everywhere, listen to our music and say, ‘Oh, it’s music from the old country.’”
Jim Seals, who had stopped performing after having a stroke in 2017, died at his home near Nashville on June 6. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, and their three children, Joshua, Juliette, and Sutherland.
